The clans of MacRae, Matheson, MacDonald & MacLeod have long standing ties to this corner of the Highlands and a great number of castles in the Lochalsh and Skye area that were, or still are, the ancestral seats of these families.
Guided visits can reveal much about Highland history from the blood
curdling dramas of Dun Sgiath to the Spanish Armada's landing at Eilean Donan. The more fantastical stories of Saucy Mary and Cù Chulainn and the legend of the fairy flag at Dunvegan Castle have their own charm.
Along with the Glenelg Brochs, the finest examples of these fortified dwellings on the Scottish mainland, these castles are the material survival of the great pageant of Highland history.
Castles at Armadale, Eilean Donan, Dunvegan, Moil, Strome, Duntulm & Knock are just some in the area with stories to tell.
